WHAT IS MOOT?

Moot court is a legal-based competition that challenges competitors to appeal a high profile Supreme Court of Canada decision, to a higher-level court.

You and your co-counsel will deliver legal and policy submissions for both the appellant and the respondent, challenging the legal and societal implications of the decision.

The winners of the round are decided by the judging panel, made up of law students, practicing lawyers, and even superior court judges.

WHAT DOES LMC DO?

LMC aims to build student’s oral, written and analytical arguments in a competitive setting. Our team of experienced members help train new mooters in the art of mooting and prepare them for competitions.

There are multiple competitions held throughout the year where LMC competitors get to show off their mooting skills and build their public speaking and legal experience.

WHY SHOULD I MOOT?

Moot court competitions challenge competitors to create convincing legal and policy submissions that grapple with the grey areas within Canadian law.

Moot court is often seen in a law school setting as an extracurricular or even in-course evaluation, mastery of these skills in your undergraduate years will serve as an advantage at law school.

Moot court is the perfect team for individuals who thrive in a competition setting, enjoy networking with legal professionals, and have an interest in building a community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about law.
